THE DEER’S HEAD INNOtis Mountain is an old ski hill in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York. It’s a little out of the way, but we promise it will be worth the trip. From Albany, it’s two hours north, and from Burlington it’s about an hour and a half with the option to take the Essex-Charlotte ferry or the Crown Point bridge to cross Lake Champlain.
For lodging in Elizabethtown, just a few minutes down the road from Otis, there are options for rooms at the Arsenal Inn & the Park Motor Inn.
A little further towards Lake Champlain, about 20 minutes from Otis, you can stay in Westport at Furnace Point Cabins or The Inn in Westport.
If you would prefer to head into the mountains, Keene or Keene Valley are a 20 minute drive. There are B&Bs such as The Keene Valley Lodge.
There are Airbnbs and VRBOs available in all towns.
If you’re looking for some world-class camping, you are more than welcome to set up with your tent, hammock or camper on Otis grounds. There is access to a swimming hole down the road, hot showers, restrooms and guaranteed great company.
We anticipate places will book quickly, so please let us know should you have any trouble finding lodging.
On Saturday, shuttles will be available to pick up party-goers from Elizabethtown and Westport between 4 and 4:30pm.
When RSVPing, please let us know if you will be needing shuttle service from either town.
Shuttles will run from Otis Mountain back to Elizabethtown and Westport between 10pm and 1am.
Early summer in the Adirondacks can be downright pleasant, but things can change quickly in the mountains. We suggest meadow-ready footwear, layers, and coming prepared for a bug or two.
If you decide to turn your trip to the Adirondacks into a long weekend, or are just looking for something to eat or do, there are some favorites in the area.
For restaurants, be sure to check out The Deer’s Head Inn, The Arsenal, & Dogwood Bakery. If you would like to go further afield, Cedar Run Bakery, Old Mountain Coffee and Rivermeade Farm Market are great spots as well.
There is no shortage of outdoor activities in the area, with hiking and biking trails right at Otis as well as trails in Elizabethtown at Cobble Hill and Blueberry Hill. If you’re looking for a summit, both Hurricane and Giant Mountain (a 46er!) are just a short drive away. Looking to cool off? Check out swimming holes at Split Rock or along the Bouquet and Branch rivers.
To visit some Olympic attractions, Lake Placid & Whiteface Mountain are a 35 minute drive, with the Cascade Lakes being a great place to stop through.
